Dear {{Constituent First Name}},
The TRUST Network offers us all a unique platform to engage across multiple sectors—peacebuilding, structural reform, advocacy, and legal efforts—uniting individuals and organizations to work toward lasting solutions.
In our ongoing commitment to support accountability, transparency, and efficiency, we must recognize the power in shared collective action. This is particularly critical at this moment, when so many are asking, "What can I do?"
There is much that you can do, and to illustrate this, we are sharing concrete examples from the field, including one from the resistance sector. This case illustrates the power of strategic, collective pushback in moments of vulnerability.
Example: Legal Civil Resistance Against Power
Over the last two weeks, we witnessed a clear example of how collective action and civil resistance can shift the narrative—and even impact power dynamics. When Elon Musk sent out threatening emails to federal workers, demanding responses under threat of termination, it seemed like an uncontrollable move. The mainstream media sensationalized the threat, but something far more powerful was unfolding behind the scenes.
Through a coordinated response, workers across the country stood in solidarity, refusing to comply. Legal challenges were mounted, unions rallied, and soon, the message from Musk’s office softened. The threatening line about termination was removed, showing the true power of civil resistance in action.
This change didn’t happen by chance. It was the result of sustained pressure, coordinated efforts, and people coming together to advocate for what is right. This story illustrates the importance of noncompliance and the role that each of us can play in shifting the balance of power.
Your Role in Collective Action
TRUSTNet360: Connecting Early Warning with Early Action
In partnership with 10 TRUST+ Centers, we have co-created an ecosystem designed to respond to hate and bias-based violence before it escalates. Unlike traditional early warning systems that rely solely on crime reports, TRUSTNet360 is a civil society-driven platform that connects early warning with early action. By collecting reports of hate incidents and cross-referencing them with local asset maps, TRUSTNet360 empowers communities to act swiftly and strategically.
Activating the Asset Map
Imagine this scenario:
A community member in Anytown, USA notices an increase in hateful graffiti near a local community center. Concerned, they report the incident through TRUSTNet360—anonymously or otherwise—along with a description of the graffiti and the location.
Once the report is submitted, the TRUSTNet360 platform automatically triggers the local asset map for Smalltown. This map, created by the TRUST+ Center in collaboration with local organizations, includes:
Safe spaces (churches, community centers, local businesses)
Support networks (mental health services, legal aid organizations, peacebuilding groups)
Key community leaders (activists, community mediation centers, local organizations, faith leaders)
The system alerts the local TRUST+ Center, which quickly reviews the report and the mapped resources. The center then takes the following actions:
Mobilizes the Response: The local TRUST+ Center reaches out to the key community leaders on the map—such as the leader of a local anti-racism group, the pastor of a local church, and a youth leader from a nearby school—to coordinate a community meeting to address the graffiti and its potential impact.
Engages Local Law Enforcement: Although TRUSTNet360 is not a crime blotter, the platform allows for collaboration with law enforcement. The TRUST+ Center shares the incident with the local police and offers to facilitate a dialogue between officers and community members to address concerns, ensuring that the response is not solely punitive but restorative.
Organizes a Community Action: The community center near the incident site—also listed on the asset map—becomes a central hub for organizing a community-wide event to denounce hate and promote unity. Local activists, artists, and organizations work together to organize a peaceful mural-painting event that transforms the space into a symbol of solidarity.
Provides Support Services: For individuals affected by the incident, the platform connects them with mental health support services and legal resources available locally, ensuring that the immediate emotional and legal needs of those impacted are met.
Why TRUSTNet360 is Different
This proactive response is only possible because TRUSTNet360 is built for and by civil society. It is not just another crime blotter that collects police reports of hate crimes. Instead, it creates a collaborative ecosystem that brings together local actors to respond in ways that are meaningful and restorative. By mapping assets in real-time, TRUSTNet360 enables communities to mobilize quickly, engage their local resources, and leverage their existing networks to create change from within.
