Dear {{Constituent First Name}},
Each month, the TRUST Network convenes a stakeholder meeting that focuses on timely efforts toward social cohesion across all four sectors. The first three months of 2025 have tested the tenacity of our democracy, the resiliency of the civil servant workforce, and escalated concerns about the executive branch's overreach. In response, the TRUST Network has hosted leadership from New Lines Institute, Fix Democracy First!, Immigrant and Refugee Law Center, and State Democracy Defenders.
As a living network constituted by individuals, organizations, and networks, we believe that collaboration and listening are interconnected. By bringing together these four sectors, we provide a truly distinct community of practice.
Our featured speaker for the April Stakeholder Meeting, Evan Milligan, is the Co-Director of the Common Good Program. Evan currently serves as the co-director of the WesternStates Center’s Common Good program, where he works to support and equip civic leaders across the United States in understanding and navigating the complex intersection of antisemitism, ethnic bigotry, and authoritarianism. Through this role, Evan and his team help build a more inclusive, equitable, and democratic future by fostering commons-centered organizing practices that prioritize collective well-being over individual gain.
The Common Good program plays a crucial part in developing strategies that resist divisive ideologies and strengthen democratic institutions, particularly in the face of rising challenges like hate-based movements and systemic oppression. With his deep commitment to these values, Evan’s work focuses on creating sustainable solutions that uplift marginalized communities and promote a vision of shared responsibility for the public good.
Our stakeholder meeting will explores how we can strengthen commons-centered social movements in the face of rising authoritarianism. Evan will define key concepts like the commons and custodianship, while contrasting different views on managing shared resources—from the pessimistic "Tragedy of the Commons" to optimistic community-based solutions. He’ll discuss how commons-centered movements, from criminal justice reform to environmental activism, are driving positive change and offer insights into the work of the Western States Center’s Common Good program in fostering inclusive, pro-democracy organizing.
